Chris Barber

Since graduating from King's College London in 1996 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy, Chris has embarked on a successful career encompassing working in London teaching hospitals, occupational health and private practice. In 1999 Chris established his first private practice in Dulwich and over the years the business has gone from strength to strength. In 2000 Chris was appointed Head Physiotherapist at Blackheath Rugby Club where he has helped the Club achieve their current position in National League 1. Chris has since established private practices within the facilities at Blackheath Rugby and Better Body Shop in Sevenoaks.

Recognising the need for evidenced based effective physiotherapy Chris incorporated Advanced Physiotherapy Centres Ltd in 2005. Chris has developed and refined injury management protocols to ensure consistency of approach and service levels between our practitioners. Chris has also developed injury prevention, screening and rehabilitation protocols for our associate personal trainers at The Better Body Shop ensuring clients are able to exercise safely at optimal levels.

Chris has completed post-graduate qualifications in musculoskeletal acupuncture including the world-renowned Gunn-IMS technique.

Chris enjoys nothing more than helping patients with chronic pain problems where treatment has failed elsewhere. In his spare time Chris enjoys road-cycling running and golf.

Maria Scicluna

Maria graduated from Brighton University in 2003 and works from our Bromley Centre. Maria joined APC ltd in 2005 and has been instrumental in developing our back and neck injury management protocols. Maria is a Gunn-IMS qualified acupuncturist and has a special clinical interest in work related musculoskeletal disorders and injury prevention. Maria is also our work-station / ergonomic assessment specialist.

Maria enjoys keeping fit, is a keen snow boarder and has worked for Bromley FC so she also has extensive experience in the management of sports injuries.

Before becoming a Physiotherapist Lee spent 14 years in HM Forces, seven of which were as a Physical Training Instructor, overseeing indoor and outdoor training sessions for soldiers of all abilities along with running a fitness centre with 600 members.

Lee graduated in 2010 from St Georges University of London with a BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy. Since then he has worked in the NHS completing his rotations in a variety of settings from ITU to general rehabilitation, however working with musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries has always been his main focus. Lee now works exclusively with musculoskeletal patients with a varied case load from chronic pain to paediatric musculoskeletal complaints.

Sports injury prevention and management has always played a large part in Lee's professional career, this has included holding posts at various sporting clubs including Aldershot Town FC academy, Crystal Palace FC academy and Harlequins Rugby League. Lee also worked twice at the Tour de France and also at the Giro de Italia; his experiences have brought him into contact with sports people of all levels ranging from the infrequent runner to the professional footballer, Triathlete and elite athlete.

Lee has a particular clinical interest in the functional assessment and treatment of sports injuries with particular focus on the shoulder; he is on the committee of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER) along with various other clinical interest groups inc Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM) and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP). He is also a qualified Sports Massage Therapist, Kinesio Taping Practitioner and Myofascial Release Therapist.

Lee enjoys keeping fit whether this is Pilates, riding his bike or running; he is also very keen to continue his professional development and regularly attends various courses and workshops. Lee works between our Blackheath and Herne Hill sites where he provides musculoskeletal and sports massage consultations.

Emma Hunter MSc Physiotherapy

Emma graduated from Kings College London in 2004 with an MSc Physiotherapy. Since specializing in musculoskeletal physiotherapy she has worked as a senior physiotherapist within a large teaching hospital in addition to working within the private sector. Her current role as senior Physiotherapist involves advanced treatment of a range of acute and chronic conditions including peripheral and spinal problems, sport related injuries and post-op orthopaedic and spinal rehabilitation. Emma is a member of the Manipulative Association of Physiotherapists (MACP) and the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and is Pilates trained. One of her main achievements includes the publication of her research and acupuncture case studies within Clinical Biomechanics Journal (2007) and the Acupuncture in Medicine Journal (2011).

James Vickers

In 2006 James graduated from St Georges Medical School London with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. He has worked in the NHS and private practice in London, and was a valued member of the medical team at Rosslyn Park Rugby Club. Over the last three years James has worked for British Ski and Snowboard as their lead physiotherapist. This has taken him to the Vancouver Winter Olympics and many World Cup events across Europe and North America. This has given him the opportunity to work with elite athletes focusing on injury prevention and maximising performance.

James is currently studying a Sports Physiotherapy MSc at Bath University and is enjoying the challenges that this brings. Studying at this level assists in the delivery of evidence based physiotherapy, and combined with good listening skills ensures efficient patient-focused treatment. James is also qualified to use acupuncture.

Prior to his physiotherapy career James graduated in Exercise Physiology from Leeds University and worked as a freelance personal trainer in London. This developed excellent exercise prescription skills and allows comprehensive rehabilitation.

James works from our Sevenoaks site and is available for appointments Mondays and Wednesdays.

James Wright
Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist

James completed a Diploma in Massage in 2010 and has since graduated from the London School of Sports Massage in September 2012; he has been working with regular private clients since then.

James is passionate about sports and remedial massage and the many benefits they offer from treating sports and work injuries, preventing injury, stress relief, increasing flexibility, flushing toxins to speed recovery and to increase a client's overall well being.

Originally from Adelaide, Australia, James has worked in the film, festival and corporate events industry here in the UK for the past 7 years covering events as varied as backstage Glastonbury, exclusive private events and banking seminars.

James has grown up having an interest in playing and watching many sports including football, Aussie Rules and Baseball.

James currently enjoys playing and watching baseball, is a keen cyclist and runner and has completed his first duathlon last year. He loves nothing more than a good coffee or an evening cooking for friends.
